Earlier this month, we came across an absolute gem of a track and couldnโt resist reaching out to the duo behind Desmond Cheese to learn more about its creation.
Now, letโs hear straight from Dr. Desmond and Mak Cheese...
Pimp Floyd is one of the early tracks on our third album, Peace and Quiet.
Itโs been almost 10 years since we made this record, but there are some distinct memories that jump out.
This album was produced in a number of locations, primarily in a very low tech home studio on the Sunshine Coast in Australia. Dr Desmond had completed his first year of medical practice, and treated the band to a moog sub phatty analogue monosynth, which featured heavily producing bass lines for this record. We had also just sold a beat to Willow Smith (true story) and invested in a mark 2 Rhodes electric piano. There was a whole wall of guitars in this shitty little studio, and one hanging pot plant that grew wildly.
With all these great musical tools we really got into the flow of producing these tracks by just layering and layering different instruments until the sound was full. On this track in particular, we left a friend improvising vocal lines over a loop, and were stoked with the snippets we chose for the intro.
Like many of our tunes itโs an immersive journey, with lots of little musical quirks and twists and turns that reveal themselves on repeat listening. Headphones and a light buzz of your choice recommended.
PS - The name is just a stupid pun, though we are big Pink Floyd fans ๐
Lovely textures!
SOOOOOO good
