this song is the embodiment of the smell of coffee, alcohol, and cigarette smoke.
A masterpiece by the Dave Brubeck Quartet
“Most people may not realize it, but for most of the song the saxophonist is playing incredibly quietly. It takes great skill to be able to play with a full, round tone at those volumes. It is so quiet on the sax track that you can hear the keys clicking and his fingers touching the brass sax.”

I teach elementary music and play Take Five for my students every year. By the time they leave me (5-6 years), it should be well-imprinted in their brains. It’s not in *the* curriculum, but it’s in *my* curriculum. :)
I LOVE this song. Endlessly catchy; tight playing in 5/4 time (thus the song's name) - this is one of those songs that I catch playing inside my head out of nowhere. It sticks with you in the best way.
