Easy Rider made this group a part of the fabric of our lives. This group was part of the craziness of Laurel Canyon that was the center of Rock and Roll during the mid 60's.
Used to follow their keyboardist Goldy McJohn on Twitter (I think it was). Wikipedia claims he was in the Sparrow (not Sparrows) but I think he was later like John Kay. Don't recall a keyboardist in the early days in Yorkville.
Steppenwolf 7, I know, I know, is a really listenable album. For some reason, one summer we had that record playing over and over again. Very unsung band.
Around the mid-60s there was a proto-punk garage band sound among lesser known groups. Steppenwolf really nailed the edgy sound. One of their albums had an inside cover showing them with a purple penis-mobile.
Used to go and see them regularly at the Inn on the Parking Lot as The Sparrow. They were excellent though didn't have their famous singer yet (who I think still worked at my father's architecture office) ... they did a cover of DOWN HOME GIRL ... better than the Stones. I think the drummer wrote BORN TO BE WILD under an alias (MARS BONFIRE),
A metal name before metal existed
'Heavy Metal Thunder'
Not quite. Blue Cheer - Vincebus Eruptum, 1968, with a monster Summertime Blues. Feel free to respond - OK Boomer...
No, you should just tell Me what do you mean with that
OK Boomer? It's now a standard response to Boomers such as I

The best song for starting a road trip, followed by Born to run.
' You know I smoked a lotta grass
Oh Lord, I popped a lotta pills
But I never touched nothin
That my spirit couldn't kill
You know I've seen a lotta people walking
'round
With tombstones in their eyes
But the Pusher don't care
If you live - or if you die
God Damm ! The Pusher
Say God Damn ! The Pusher Man"

One of my favorite songs of all time.
This is one of those songs in my history that I have not "over listened to," so when it pops up it always sounds fresh.
They were born to be wild….
Yeah. That and Radar Love/Twilight Zone
Apart from late 68 when Led Zeppelin hit the US so hard it was like Thor's hammer
First concert I ever attended, 1971, Steppenwolf with Three Dog Night opening. UPS Fieldhouse, Tacoma, Wa

If man is still alive …
Monster. The lyrics are as relevant today as they were 55 years ago. Maybe more so today.
