I actually love “Planet Caravan” and other more mellow Sabbath songs. It makes them more well-rounded. Plus, we get to hear some of Iommi’s jazzy guitar chops.
Have always loved this tune. Good choice. Sabbath was more versatile than people think, but their fans and management demanded the heavy stuff. Sabbath is my "stranded on a deserted island" band.
I had forgotten about that song. Paranoid was one of the albums I would put on to fall asleep when I was in high school. I remember all the other songs except this one, likely because I have not heard it since then. It is a great song, not sure I would put it above Fairies Wear Boots, Iron Man and War Pigs.
I could never narrow it down to one favorite Sabbath song; impossible when they have so many great melodies, so many enormous riffs. But "Planet Caravan" is unquestionably great, and it makes you wish they had done more like it, created more languid and distorted sci-fi tales, to listen to, as we travel the universe.
Omigod, I love this song! I never really listened to Black Sabbath and the first time I ever heard it was when it was included on the French band Air’s installment of the amazing compilation series Late Night Tales. That whole album is worth checking out: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1UqSSLbT9Ld08S9g5Kz0FQ
Moon Duo did a brilliant, liquidy, pulsating, organic cover of this.
Yes! Heard it on Spotify
I remember a friend of mine making a mixtape of all mellow Sabbath songs back in the early. nineties— this one and "Laguna Sunrise" are my favorites.
I also have a soft spot for Changes. So out in left field but after all these years I truly appreciate having this in my head.

This was their first hit single in the UK.
Paranoid is a great album but my 3 favorite Black Sabbath albums are still Vol 4, Heaven and Hell, and Mob Rules
I was at Royal Festival Hall in London 1970 October & watched them live playing Paranoid. I couldn’t hear properly for three days afterwards.
Faith No More covered it, so not that unpopular! 😜
Mercury Rev and Pantera, too.
Totally agree. It’s not Iron Man. It’s definitely a “deeper” cut.
I heard this when I was 11 probably at the outset of Metal fandom. Sum 10/12 years later Pantera covered it. Resparked love for it.
Mexico City Blondes do a beautiful version.
I’ve not actually heard the Mercury Rev or FNM covers. So that’s cool to learn.
This is just an amazing song period.

Planet Caravan is unquestionably my favorite Sabbath song. Utterly timeless <3
Nope, this is perfect Sabbath. A buddy and I got stoned to this. and then Iron Man "woke us up." lol. thanks for the blast back!
it’s my favourite track off paranoid so not unpopular with me

My unpopular opinion is that Paranoid is the only Sabbath album I like!
